This article is great. I'm pretty sure its the solution I need. However, it didn't work. I think I did everything, but when I try to turn the MySQL server back on, only the Apache server starts. (using MAMP)

Here's what I did:

1) install fresh copy of MAMP

2) create database with same name as old one "wordpress"

3) Turn off "servers" in MAMP

4) Copy the database file - I https://uploads.disquscdn.c... (circled in the screenshot

5) Copy the old ibdata1 file from the backup to the new folder to replace the new one

6) Turn the MAMP servers back on

After these steps, the MySQL server won't start so I can't access myPHP or the website

Any suggestions?

can any one explain me above steps more elaborately as i didnt got which ibdata1 to copy and where to paste and what does that new location stands for as im new to wordpress and i m in great trouble as i lost all posts and pages

I followed each and every instruction as u mentioned above,but didn't got the intended result, even though database tables are not locating in my Phpmyadmin and when i click any tables it shows below error as#1146 - Table 'learnwordpress.wp_posts' doesn't exist
where learnwordpress is my database name.
any kind of help will be highly appreciatable

This definitely saved us! Thanks for the post and great instructions. Worked for both MyISAM and INNOdb tables, and overwrote both the ibdata1 file and the db.opt file for the DB. Cheers!

Hi.. This one is very much useful when u have lost ur windows and installed new one.

I use Xampp so used below steps
1. The first thing install a fresh copy XAMPP.
2. Then create an empty database using phpMyAdmin with the same name as your original database like "mydb".
3. This will create a folder with "mydb" in C:\xampp\mysql/data.
4. Now turn off the MySQL service.
5. Copy the .frm files and .MYD, MYI files to the new location.
6. Copy the ibdata1 file to the MySQL folder.
7. Start the MySQL service again.

Now you should be able to locate your database tables in phpMyAdmin.

Thank you! After searching all over, this is the post that saved me. The key for me was "check Add DROP TABLE" — which is not checked by default. Without that, the exported file wouldn't import.

For all those having the problem with the 0 size databases: The ibdata1 is a kind of a fingerprint file for the database, and the frm files are opened with their associated fingerprints. That's why copying only the frm files won't work. Also that's why you can't access all the other 'not recovered' databases, unless you've backed up the original ibdata1 file.

In what way does adding those lines to your .zshrc affect SSH sessions?

Which shell are you using? This works for backwards in ZSH, but not forwards. I had to edit my .zshrc to contain:

bindkey -e
bindkey '^[[1;9C' forward-word
bindkey '^[[1;9D' backward-word

But this then messes up SSH sessions.
